Netwas has a multi-disciplinary team of highly professional staff. The diverse disciplines include water and sanitation engineers, social scientists, public health officers, economists and environmentalists. This broad spectrum of professions enables Netwas to undertake assignments requiring multi-disciplinary team of professionals. Where needed, Netwas also makes use of its associates.

Eng. Njoroge -  Executive DirectorImage

Eng. Njoroge, Robert joined Netwas International in January, 2008 as the Executive Director. His career objective is:”to achieve excellence in professional leadership and contribute to improved standards of living for mankind”. As a member of the Board of Directors in Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company, where he also chaired the Technical Committee of the Board, Eng. Njoroge participated in the transformation of the former Water Services Department of the City Council of Nairobi to an autonomous water utilities company serving a population of about 3 million. His participation included formulation, review and approval and implementation of strategic business plans for the company, which saw customer satisfaction rise by more than 300% and revenues by over 400% over a period of 3 years. Eng. Njoroge has also been involved in formulation of strategic business plans for other water utilities companies. Eng. Njoroge also served as a member of senior management for Plan International, Kenya for over nine years during which he participated in the formulation and implementation of corporate strategic plans, leadership in the water and sanitation interventions, and implementation of numerous water supply and sanitation projects. Eng. Njoroge also participated in the formulation and implementation of the Smallholder Coffee Improvement Project (SCIP), a project that was jointly funded by the World Bank and Government of Kenya as a project engineer.  As the Project Engineer in SCIP, Eng. Njoroge provided leadership in the design and implementations of hundreds of coffee factories with special emphasis to pollution control from the solid waste and effluent generated during coffee processing, and electrification of the coffee factories using the STABEX funds from the European Union. Eng. Njoroge also participated in the reforms of the water sector in Kenya at various levels. He has several publications to his credit such as:  Strategy Development among Water Services Boards in Kenya (MBA Dissertation); and Community management of water supply schemes and sanitation projects.  Eng. Njoroge has served in various Board of Directors including: Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company, Netwas International, and in various Boards of high schools. Eng. Njoroge also serves as a member of the Professional Interview Panel of Kenya’s Engineers Registration Board.

Eng. Njoroge holds a Master of Business Administration (in Strategic Management); Master of Science (in Environmental Engineering) and a Bachelor of Science (in Engineering) from the University of Nairobi. He is a registered engineer by Kenya’s Engineers Registration Board, and a corporate member of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya. He holds a Certificate in Corporate Governance, and various management and environmental related courses.

 
 
 

Dr. Cecilia N. Warero Image

Programme officer – Capacity Building and Training

Cecilia Warero joined Netwas International in April, 2008.   Before joining  Netwas she had been working in Southern Sudan for 5 years as a Gender Advisor and Field Veterinarian with Veterinaries Sans Frontiers – Switzerland (VSF – Suisse) an international NGO.  Cecilia is registered with the Kenya Veterinary Board (KVB) and is a member of the Kenya Veterinary Association (KVA).  Prior to working in Sudan she served as the Extension Programme Officer for American Breeders Services (ABS-TCM), in the USAID funded World Space Radio Programmes.

Cecilia has been carrying out capacity building for over 7 years and has carried out various trainings in Environmental health; Water, Sanitation and Hygiene in the Sudan and various towns in Kenya as well as designing new training programmes, carrying out project evaluations and community participatory evaluations.

She holds a bachelor’s a degree in veterinary medicine from the University of Nairobi and is finalising her thesis for a Master of Science in Environmental Legislation and Management at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT). Other qualifications include: a post graduate diploma in business administration; post graduate diploma in community development, project planning and management; certificate in environmental impact assessment; and a certificate in gender planning. Cecilia has vast experience in community development, project planning and management, Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) and PHAST among other participatory methodologies. She also has expertise in Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), Application of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) in Natural Resources Management, Gender Mainstreaming and Business Administration.

She is fluent in English and Kiswahili and basic French

 
 Beth Karanja

Ms Karanja is a Social Scientist with over fourteen years experience in the water and sanitation sector. She has worked both with Government Ministries  and NGOs at national and international levels. She has occupied various management positions within and outside NETWAS. Beth is a qualified professional trainer in various participatory methods in water and sanitation including PHAST; SARAR; PRA, PLA and MPA among others. She is highly experienced in project/programme design, planning, development and management and also advocacy and advisory services in the sector and beyond. She is responsible for quality control/assurance for all training activities within NETWAS.

Beth is a specialist in: - Community mobilization, organization and management for sustainable development; Self-help promotion activities e.g, small scale business management; Promotion of Appropriate Technologies; Leadership/management training; Production and pre-testing of training materials; Participatory Community Appraisals and community based monitoring systems; Conducting Assessments, Appraisals, Monitoring and Evaluation of projects. She has experience in Promotion of Gender and Equity in WES; Facilitation and Training of Trainers skills as well as the promotion of strategic approaches to Integrated Water resources development and management. She is experienced in carrying out applied research studies, for instance, “Sustaining Changes in Hygiene Behaviours”; promotion of sustainable hygiene behaviours and school sanitation programmes. She is currently the team leader for the Managing Water for Africa Cities Training and Capacity Building Programme of the UN Habitat. She is also the STREAMS of Knowledge Coalition contact person for East African Region, as well as the National Coordinator for the WSSCC activities including the WASH Campaign in Kenya.

She has working experience in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Sudan; Botswana, South Africa; Malawi, Zambia, Nigeria and Ethiopia. She is fluent in Kikuyu, her mother tongue, English both oral and written and has some basic knowledge in French.
 
   Misheck T. Kirimi

Misheck Kirimi studied biology and teaching-learning methodologies at Kenyatta University, Nairobi, and graduated with Bachelor’s of Education Degree in1989. He has worked in the water and environment sectors as a trainer/facilitator, curriculum developer, action researcher and communicator since 1994. From 2003 he has been the coordinator of an emerging partnership of 7 organisations focusing on school water, sanitation and hygiene education in Kenya. He has published over 100 articles in newspapers, journals and websites and 1 book. He edits the Water and Saniation Update, a quarterly water sector newsletter for practitioners and policy makers in the Eastern Africa. Kirimi has carried out assignments in 7 African countries, 3 European countries and 1 Asian country. Between 1994 and 2001 he served as Mobile Education Officer for the Wildlife Clubs of Kenya. For 5 years (1989–1994) he worked as a biology teacher and an examiner for the Kenya National Examinations Council.
